Winter Remix Recap!!

recaprecap2recap3

Here it is, the 30 x 30 Remix in all its glory! I know I complained a wee bit, but overall: a) it was a ton of fun, and b) I’m pretty proud of myself for the accomplishment, as it was a lot of work!!

Things I learned:

1. Think about the items you pick to Remix carefully. I thought I did…but it didn’t take long to realize that I had skimped on bottoms & shoes, and chosen waaaaaaay too many cardi-type tops.

2. Take the time to “finish” your outfit everyday with accessories. Pre-Remix, if I didn’t have any exciting plans for the day, I wouldn’t always take the time to accessorize. Once the Remix began and I was posting my pic on the internet everyday, I wanted to spotlight the extras that complete a look, and not just the clothes. Now I’m in the habit of putting it all on at the beginning of the day, and even if I’m just running errands, I feel more put together, and less ‘lazy-mommy’.

2a. A few pyjama days a month are totally ok. In fact, they’re encouraged (by me, that is)!

3. Spend an extra minute or two to think about how to combine the items in your wardrobe. I’ve spent years in a tank top & cardi go-to world. The Remix forced me to layer in a different way with multiple long sleeve tops. It’s not rocket science, but I think it’s easy to slip into auto-pilot when getting dressed, even when you love fashion.

4. There’s no reason to be shy about posting your picture on your blog! Though I wasn’t super shy before, I’m much more comfortable now. Some pics are more flattering than others and that’s just the way it is. I’m not a model and this isn’t a magazine. The blogging community is amazingly supportive and wonderfully kind.

5. Participating in a group challenge made the Remix extra fun! I took the time to check out a lot of other Remixers and in the process discovered fabulous new blogs and made some fantastic new friends.

6. I missed my other clothes (especially my other jeans!) and wearing black (which I purposefully left out of my Remix tops because I tend to wear black A. LOT.).

7. Not buying anything for the month was difficult (total understatement here!), but extremely beneficial. There’s no way I could avoid the mall for 30 days, so I window shopped with the babe and my starbucks instead. I now have a small(ish) list of well thought out items that I plan on adding to my wardrobe (I’ll share these with you soon!)

8. Participating in the Remix was the perfect time to clean out my closet! If I wasn’t jonesing to wear an item in the “restricted” area of my closet, I packed it away. I learned that staring at less clothing (as long as it’s clothing that you love) makes getting dressed easier and leads to many more outfit possibilities than a closet packed full of items you’re not excited to wear.

So, I think that about sums it up! Congrats to my fellow Remixers! And thanks so very much to those of you that followed my  30 x 30 journey. I love reading your comments! Until we Remix again……..

Oh, I almost forgot, I’d LOVE to know which look is your fave?? I’m thinking 1, 4, 13, 15 & 30 are my top 5. OXO

  7. Linda says:

Well done Natalie! I enjoyed watching you everyday! It was fun to watch you pick out your outfit, (whether it was your favorite or not) and then choosing from your limited wardrobe.
    (which wasn’t too limited) My favorites were 6,11 & 26 I think!
There probably was more, but there you go!

would you ever consider being a personal shopper or giving a workshop?
You have the fashion gene and an eye for detail.
    BRAVO!

    Congrats!:)
I loved all of your outfits! I think you did a good job of picking your 30 items wisely :) I particularly loved 5,18,and 30–AWESOME necklace and that blazer was MADE FOR YOU!

  12. Emily says:

I have enjoyed watching your remixing! I love your style. You’re 100% fashionable without smacking me in the face with it. If that makes any sense. I had a hard time choosing only 5, but I did. 11, 13, 19, 20, 30

  13. Becky says:

Congrats on completing the 30 for 30 challenge!!! We made it!! :)

I definitely relate with you for not having enough bottoms in my remix. I wish I had an extra skirt or dress instead of the number of sweaters that I had and didn’t wear! Ha.

Oh and how did you arrange your pictures like that? I tried making a collage through Picasa to show off all my outfits, but it didn’t work out too great and the pictures are super tiny. I am seriously lacking in basic computer skills. Ha.

I’m kind of sad the 30×30 is over but I LOVED every day!!! Thanks so much for sharing this with all of us, it was truly enjoyable. Also, I learned alot about dressing =) My Favorite outifits would to be #’s 2, 14, 24 & 30 ( okay okay I liked them all, haha) Can’t wait for the next series!

  15. Sierra says:

    I really love #5, and #29.

It was a lot of fun! I think one of the things I liked is that it forced me to really narrow down my style. When I have a whole closet it’s easy to completely change my style every day and not really feel like I have something that its clearly me.

  16. Melissa says:

Thanks for stopping by my blog. I’m glad you did! I never thought I would find someone that wore cardigans as much as I do. My uniform is pretty much pants, cardigan, cute top and shoes. My favorite looks were 7 and 18.

I agree about pajama days. I pretty much don’t get dressed on the weekends unless I go somewhere.

Today is my day 30 and while it was fun I’m so happy it’s over.

  17. Mae says:

I was just introduced to your blog through my sister-in-law who told me about this challenge you did. I’ve briefly browsed your blog but already am IN LOVE with it. I admire mother’s who continue to be stylish and not succumb to just wearing sweats and baggy shirts.

Can’t wait to see more of your looks <3
