Summer Remix – Day 17

d17-2

Last weekend I had the most lovely coffee date with one of my favourite friends, gorgeous Vickie of Adventures in Fashion. We sat by the shop window, sipped yummy drinks (thanks for treating V!) and chatted about everything under the sun.

It was a perfect Saturday morning escape from the routine of the week. As a new Mom, it’s funny how much I’ve come to appreciate these wonderfully little pockets of non-Mommy time.

After catching up on each other’s lives, the obligatory girl talk (hair, makeup, etc), the conversation inevitably turned to blogging. There was a lot of “isn’t she amazing”, and “how do people do that?”. THEN, we decided to take some outfit pics (how could two bloggers meet up and NOT take outfit pics?!)

Vickie was far more eager to take my picture than my Mr. ever is. He bought me a wireless remote so I could take my own photo’s after all!

Howwwever, if I didn’t have said remote (thank you Mr.), we wouldn’t have been able to capture the awesomeness of us posing together. Here are the results:

Posing together proved to be much harder than we anticipated. As soon as we began it was like someone turned on the akward-tap. These two shots aren’t too bad, but trust me, no one (not even our loved ones) should be subjected to the outtakes.

I’m racking up some pretty serious Remix demerits this time around! I think I’m on day 21 and I’m just now getting around to posting day 14 pictures. I’d so fire me right now. But since I’m the boss, I’ll let me redeem myself by just catch up on posting all my outfits (did you follow that?). Get ready for a barrage of what-I’ve-been-wearing posts!

Tasty Tuesday – Banana Bread

Here you have it my Sweets, my Banana Bread recipe. It has evolved to the point where I’m pretty pleased with it, but there is always room for improvement. I would like to try to jazz it up with some nuts one day, but for now I’m keeping it baby friendly.

Pre-heat oven to 350 degress.

bb1

Since banana size seems to vary greatly (and in this case size does matter, hee hee), I generally use 3 small bananas or 2 large ones for this recipe.

BB2

In a large mixing bowl combine:

2 cups of whole wheat flour*, 2 tablespoons of ground flax seeds, 2 teaspoons of cinnamon, 1 teaspoon of baking soda and 1/4 teaspoon of salt.

BB3

Using a mixer if possible, cream together 1/4 cup of marg/butter, 1/4 cup apple sauce and 1/2 cup brown sugar**.

BB4

Add mashed/pureed bananas (2-3), 2 eggs (slightly beaten), and 1 teaspoon of vanilla to wet ingredients and blend well.

BB5

BB6

Stir wet ingredients into dry, just until blended and then pour dough into a greased loaf pan (mine is 5 x 9).

BB7

I like to dust the top of the loaf with extra cinnamon and organic sugar. Bake at 350 degrees for 45-65 minutes (test with a tooth pick frequently the first time you bake to find the best time for your oven).

BB8

Allow bread to cool in the loaf pan for 10 minutes, then transfer onto a wire rack.

I hope you guys find this as deeeee-lish as the baby and I do! Don’t forget to try it toasted with peanut butter (Maranatha is my fave). And if anyone has any tips to improve my recipe please let me know! I love to experiment!

* You can use 1 cup of whole wheat flour and 1 cup of white if you prefer a lighter bread.
** Sugar can be reduced to 1/4 cup if desired.

Five Things Friday

FF1

French fries in newspaper, bathed in ketchup and vinegar, eaten on the beach with the fam.

FF2

I took this pic with my iphone. Sorry it’s not all cool and hipstamatic-y.

FF3

Also taken with my iphone, my hat felt left out when I took a picture of my drink. I didn’t want him to be sad (yes, I think my hat is a boy…even though he’s sporting florals).

FF4

My current favourite snack (the rice cakes were too addictive!), plain yogurt drizzled with honey. The best part is the drizzling really. Sometimes I drizzle a secret message to myself.

FF5

My Mom brought me this rose from her garden. I really want to plant some of my own. Or, watch a hunky gardener (hint hint Mr.) plant some for me.

If you’re following my Summer Remix, I’ll catch up on posting my outfits shortly. Also, since a few of you lovely readers were asking about my banana bread, I am finishing up a post about it now! Check back later today for all the delicious details!

PS – It’s FRIDAY. Let’s have a collective sigh *ahhhhh*

Randoms:

It’s getting to the point where I could make banana bread in my sleep. It’s easy, nutritious (my recipe anyway), and a great snack to take on the go. There is pretty much always a loaf sitting beside my toaster…*ding ding ding*!!! Omgosh, have you ever had toasted banana bread with peanut butter? It’s IN-SANE. Do it.

My toes are still lavendawkard. (Get it? Lavender + Awkward, like Bragelina. Oh, I’m funny.)

Summer Remix List

summer30summer302

As I said in my last post, I can’t believe it has taken me so long to show you my Remix List. I hope that you won’t hold it against me. What do you think of my items? Any stand out favourites? Your keen observation skills have probably picked up on the fact that I have only chosen 28 items. Why? Let’s explore that, shall we?

1. I am bad at math - Ok, this isn’t really the case. In fact I’m fairly good at math (toot tooting my own horn here). I often do math in my head when I can’t fall asleep. Is that weird? Oh, I digress. In this case, I was more ‘math-lazy’. I thought I had selected 30 items, but when I went to edit my pics, that wasn’t the case. So why didn’t I just add 2 more items?

2A. I knew I would cheat - And I’ve just proved that theory to be correct. With 30 days of outfit posts 1 or 2 contraband items are bound to make an appearance.

2B. This gosh darn crappy weather – It’s hard to pick out 30 items when Summer is not Summery. After a devastating “June-uary”, July hasn’t been much better. Local folk are now sadly referring to it as ” Bummer Summer”. I’m not a complainer, but I’m starting to feel like Old Auntie Mildred with all my moaning about the lack of warmth. My current favourite personal quotation regarding said weather is: “I’m so mad, I could shoot the sky”. (Tough talk, as I’m a peace, love & fluffy bunnies kinda girl).
