Summer Remix Recap!

Summer-Remix-RecapSummer-Remix-Recap-2

With my last Remix I put together a nice little recap with some insightful(?) reflections. As for style epiphanies this time round I’d say:

1. It’s easier to Remix in the winter. There just seems to be more free time then. And a slower pace to life, for me at least.

2. It’s difficult to Remix with a 1 year old. Excuses, excuses, hey? I know. But since I’ve not yet trained her to take my outfit photos for me, and when I put her down to take them for myself she walks away (and into danger/trouble), I’m going to milk this excuse.

3. Don’t title your posts Remix – Day One (or any other variation on this theme). It’s seriously boring. I don’t know why I did it. And twice no less. I feel shame.

Looking back, I have to say that my favourite outfits are: 4, 6, 14, 17, 19, 21 & 23. Wow, that’s too many. Which look is YOUR fave??

Hello my Pretty Pretty Princesses! How was everyone’s weekend??

Mine was lovely. Highlights include: a sleep in, dinner with family & friends, going to see Harry Potter (my first movie in 14 months AND my first 3D experience, oohhh excitement!) and an afternoon of browsing downtown with Mr. and babe. Last week I felt totally discombobulated, so just the fact that I remembered to wear deoderant and didn’t flash anyone was a huge improvement.

I’m on the last leg of this Remix and I’m getting to the point where I’d rather poke my eyes out than put together another outfit. Seriously. I’m looking forward to leaving it behind at the end of the week.

Speaking of such time, we’re headed out of town this weekend for a wonderful little beachy getaway. Besides being nominated the family’s list-maker/organizer/packer-of-everything, I want to put in a little time during the week getting myself beach/bikini ready. Family vacations often involve a lot of delicious food and since we’re staying on the beach, a lot of bikini time. To start out feeling good, I plan on eating sensibly, drinking a ton of water, and squeezing in a 20 minute workout everyday this week. Sounds doable right? I think a mani/pedi will be in order and probably a good amount of exfoliating! Other than that, I’m kinda stumped. What do you guys like to do to feel at your beachy-best?

What to Wear on a Play Date in the Summer (Summer Remix – Day 22)

A week after I conceived my daughter, I began on the long (and often frustrating) journey of figuring out what to wear to accommodate my new shape and lifestyle. While I’ve conquered most the body changes of pregnancy and beyond, having a wee one continues to play a large roll in dictating what I wear.

So, let’s talk about what to wear on a summer play date and why I think this outfit is such a perfect example. (My day included tea-partying, beaching, parking and playing with 4 fabulous girlies.)

1. Denim Shorts – Destroyed or clean cut, long or short, relaxed or tailored, there’s a pair out there for everyone’s taste and everyone’s body type. You can find them at pretty much every store in town so whatever you budget is, you’re sure to have an array of choices. Unless you opt for the super light variety (that’s not very smart of you), most denim is magical when it comes to camouflaging spills (and let’s face it, you will be spilled on). You can sit on the floor, on the grass, in the sand, or in the dirt without a care in the world.

2. Thrifted Silk Tops – The perfect pairing to your trusty and durable denim bottom is without a doubt a lovely silk top. You can hit up any retail store for a large selection in a range of prices OR you can try a local thrift shop and spend pennies for a one-of-a-kind find. The top I’m wearing was 10 cents. Bananas, I know. Button ups, tees, tanks, blod and bright, or soft and ladylike, the options are endless. Being dressier on top makes me fell more put together. I can play in the dirt and then stop at a store on my way home and not look like a hobo. And remember the spillage we talked about? When your top only cost a few dollars, it’s no big thing! (I machine wash cold and hang dry, treat with a stain remover as needed).

3. Accessories – I kept things simple with this outfit, a woven belt to add texture, a large watch and chunky, smoked quartz earrings. Embrace what feels like you when accessorizing. It’s the icing on the cake of your outfit, and even the most delicate chain can add so much to finishing off a look. While I love getting something new in the accessory department, I often return to old favourites. Jewelry has somewhat of a magical quality to me, as if it holds on to the memories of its adventures. I’ve certainly had my share of tough days as a new Mom, and on those days especially, I find it comforting to wear an accessory that has a lovely, sentimental value to me.

PS – Thanks K, I, & R for the fabulous day! We had a wonderful time!

Hello Kittens. How’s everyone’s week going? Are you basking in the glorious sunshine of summer (finally!)?

You may have noticed that I’m NOT wearing sunnies in these pics. I did that just for you. It was starting to seem like I had some sort of Ray Bans = security blanket, issue. Or maybe that I had something to hide? Hmmmm, sinister. In any case, I left them at home (well, just in my lobby really, 15 feet away) and perhaps I seem friendlier and more approachable in these pictures? Except in the last pic where I look like I am about to run away from home.

Can you spot the “accessory” that should not have made it into the photo shoot? Oooohhh, a little game! You’re welcome. Maybe I will start a new trend! Spot the strange item in the outfit post?! That would surely take the blogging community by storm. I must stop typing now so I can pat myself on the back for that one. OXO

PS – My shoes are a Remix cheat.
